MINOTTI

December 27th, 2019

I am having a Coca-Cola with ice and lime at the bar of the Andaz Hotel in Tokyo.

The view is unbelievable. It is the sixth consecutive year I repeat this ritual. As soon as I arrived here for the very first time, as I boarded the bus that would take me from Narita to downtownTokyo, I was already in love with Japan. Yes, love at first sight. The politeness, the concern towards others, the silence, the architecture, the fashion, the design, the elegance, and the way in which tradition coexists with the future, swept me off my feet. Ahhh and I almost forgot, dear God, the fantastic food! Each day is lived to its fullest, ambling and meandering through the city streets.

One day, during one of these never-ending strolls, I come across a famous hotel of the 60s. The interior design is simply marvelous. As I sit in the lobby, I think about designing a few pieces of furniture inspired by this post-war Japan. It would be a reminder of a place that I love so much.

Minotti has asked me to write a few words about the Daiki collection. I stop typing, I think about how I will finish this text, and suddenly remember a sad fact: this year I will not be able to have my traditional Coca-Cola on December 27th, but I will surely try to go see the Cherry blossoms and their splendorous beauty, and, of course, with even more pleasure.
