Vertical circulation conceived as architectural promenades became recurring elements in projects of studio mk27 since 2010. The theme is prominent in projects such as Ramp House (2011-2015) and Fio House (2010-2015).
In House B+B, the formal access to social area is made thorught a ramp protected laterally by hollowed-out elements. These concrete blocks, designed specifically for this project, create different lighting effects at all times during the day as well as the year.
The ramp, which is a total length of 25m, 4.5m wide and 11% inclination, extends the internal-external transition and alters the perception of time in the architecture with ceremonial changes between spaces. There is something indefinite about the character of this interstitial space: internal or external?
If compared to other projects of mk27, the organization of the B+B House plan brings an inversion of programmatic divisions between floors. Bedrooms are on the ground floor in direct relation to the garden and the social area, in turn, is on the first floor.
A 3.5m sliding door allows the kitchen to open to the dining table. On the other side, the countertop faces the ramp, making the kitchen a well-lit and pleasant space.
