The hotel “L-AND Reserve Hotel & Spa” is comprised of a Main Building, a building to function as a Spa and 71 lodging units, inserted in a touristic setting in Herdade do Mercador in Mourão, south of Portugal.

The objective of this project is essentially to frame and integrate the lodging units into the landscape, bearing in mind that the land is excellently located, with a privileged view of the Alqueva lagoon. The architectural principle adopted favors the horizontality of the constructions, respecting its surroundings, without overlaying it.

The Main Building contains the administrative and social program of the “L-AND Reserve Hotel & Spa”. It is configured by a massive volume of corten steel and glass, surrounded by a structure made of wooden pillars and on the second floor, a large open lounge, shaded by the wooden structure. This configuration confers great visual permeability to the building, thereby guaranteeing a strong relation between the interior and the landscape.

The hotel villas were divided in 4 typologies, with sizes varying from 1, 2, 3 and 4 rooms. Almost all villas have its own private swimming pool on the exterior deck (with exception of a few villas with 1 bedroom). Villas V3 and V4 feature a landscaped inner courtyard that enhances environmental quality and brings the dam’s microclimate to the internal space. The rooms fully open to the outside enjoying the relationship with the landscape.

The proposed materials, are in part materials from the region that meet the characteristics of quality and durability, endowing the construction with a coherent and marking image, maximizing the framing and integration into the landscape.
